Xiaomi Boosts Car Production: Set to Produce Nearly 20,000 Vehicles Monthly

Chinese tech giant Xiaomi, known for its presence in nearly every aspect of consumer electronics, has decided to ramp up its car production following high demand. According to reports in local media, Xiaomi will implement a double-shift system at its factory in Beijing starting next month. By extending the daily operational hours from 8 to 16, the company aims to increase its monthly production capacity to around 20,000 units.

As of May 15, 2024, Xiaomi announced that it had delivered its 10,000th SU7 model to a customer. Deliveries began on April 3, meaning the company delivered 10,000 vehicles in just 43 days. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun had previously stated that the Beijing factory could produce 40 SU7 units per hour. Currently, delivery times for the standard version of Xiaomi SU7 range from 29 to 32 weeks, while the SU7 Max version has a maximum wait time of 36 weeks. The second-phase construction of the Beijing factory is set to commence by the end of 2024 and be completed by 2025, increasing the factory’s annual production capacity to 300,000 units.

Last week, a Xiaomi SU7 model delivered to a customer broke down after traveling just 39 kilometers and was recalled by the company for examination.
