Tesla has accelerated the production of its electric truck, the Tesla Semi, with aerial footage showing more than 26 models at the company’s Gigafactory in the United States. These latest images offer a glimpse into Tesla’s ramped-up manufacturing efforts, as CEO Elon Musk had previously indicated that the company was ready for Semi’s production push.
Tesla Semi Production Captured by Drone
Recent drone footage from the Gigafactory revealed 26 Tesla Semis parked outside the building. The footage shows 15 units on one side of the facility and 11 on the other, suggesting that production is continuing at a steady pace.
First introduced in 2017, the Tesla Semi began rolling off the production line late last year, with PepsiCo receiving the first deliveries. Although production volumes have been limited thus far, Pepsi has a substantial order of 100 trucks. It is believed that the models seen in the drone footage are likely destined for Pepsi.
In addition to Pepsi, other major companies have placed orders for the Tesla Semi, including UPS and Sysco, a food distribution company. Retail giant Walmart is also testing electric transportation alternatives, including the Tesla Semi.
Beyond external orders, Tesla is also using the Semi for its internal operations, transporting battery packs, Powerwalls, and other cargo between its facilities.
Meanwhile, Graham Carroll, Tesla’s head of Semi development for America, announced that the company is taking steps to bring the Semi to Europe. Elon Musk had previously mentioned that producing Semi trucks at the Berlin Gigafactory could be a logical move for expanding its reach.
