Windows 11 to Introduce New RAM Panel and Default Bitlocker Setup in 24H2 Update

Despite significant investments, Microsoft has struggled to gain widespread adoption for Windows 11. However, the company is preparing a major update for the second half of the year, which includes two noteworthy features spotted in the Insider builds. Here’s what you can expect from the upcoming Windows 11 2024 (24H2) update.

Default Bitlocker Setup

The 24H2 update for Windows 11 will include Bitlocker disk encryption as a default feature during installation. The encryption process will occur in the background and cannot be paused or stopped prior to the update. This default Bitlocker setup will be included even in Windows 11 Home edition, indicating Microsoft’s push toward enhancing security at every level.

Enhanced RAM Panel in Task Manager

In addition to Bitlocker, the Task Manager’s RAM performance panel is getting an update. Instead of displaying RAM usage in MHz, the new panel will use MT/s (mega transfers per second), providing more accurate statistics on RAM performance. This change addresses the common practice among manufacturers of inflating MHz values, offering users a clearer view of their RAM’s true capabilities.

These updates aim to improve security and provide more reliable system performance data, reinforcing Microsoft’s commitment to enhancing the Windows 11 user experience. With the 24H2 update, users can expect a more secure and transparent operating system.
