Windows 11 Start Menu May Soon Resemble iPhone’s Organization

Microsoft’s latest beta preview for Windows 11 hints at a significant change to the Start menu, potentially adopting a categorized view similar to that found in iOS and iPadOS. This update could revolutionize how apps are organized on the platform.

Windows 11 Start Menu: A Shift Towards Categorization

Currently, Windows 11 displays all installed apps in an alphabetical list within the Start menu. However, users who installed build 22635.3930 noticed an added feature allowing for a “Category” view, which groups apps into categories such as “Productivity,” “Entertainment,” and “Games.” This organizational style closely mirrors how iPhone and iPad manage apps on their home screens.

Although the feature in the preview build was not functional, it reveals Microsoft’s plans to offer more options for organizing the app library. The Start menu currently has two styles: a vertical list view and a grid list that showcases the latest version of the app. The categorized view will simplify managing installed programs on Windows 11.

Uncertainty and Potential Enhancements

It’s unclear when Microsoft will finalize and release this new Start menu feature. Like previous Insider previews, the development could be retracted. However, if implemented, this change will enhance app visibility and user interaction by making navigation more intuitive.

Stay tuned as Microsoft continues to evolve Windows 11, potentially bringing a touch of iPhone-like functionality to its platform.
