Toyota Launches Its First Autonomous Electric Vehicle in China
Developed by Toyota, the brand’s inaugural autonomous electric vehicle will feature advanced driving assistance for tasks such as parking and navigating through highway or urban traffic. For this system, Toyota has partnered with Momenta Global, a renowned software provider also working with giants like Mercedes-Benz.
Furthermore, Toyota plans to introduce an iron phosphate lithium battery by 2026-2027, which is expected to reduce the production cost of its existing bZ4X electric vehicle by up to 40%. However, Toyota is not rushing the transition to fully electric vehicles. Last May, it entered collaborations with Mazda and Subaru to produce hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines, demonstrating a versatile approach to vehicle propulsion.
At the end of last year, Toyota unveiled several new electric vehicle prototypes ahead of the Japan Mobility Show. Among these was the Land Cruiser SE with a seven-passenger capacity and the EPU: Electric Pickup, boasting a range of over 400 miles.
This news follows just two months after Tesla received approval for launching its Full Self-Driving technology in China. Tesla has been working with Chinese tech firm Baidu to provide navigation support and lane-level mapping services.
