TikTok Tests 60-Minute Video Feature to Compete with YouTube

TikTok is making significant strides in its bid to rival YouTube, and its latest move involves testing a 60-minute video feature. Traditionally known for its short, snappy videos, TikTok has been steadily increasing the length of content users can upload. Recently, the platform introduced a 15-minute video feature. Now, some sources reveal that TikTok is experimenting with allowing users to upload videos up to 60 minutes long.

TikTok’s ambition to compete with YouTube is clear. Following the rollout of the 15-minute video option, the company is now testing the 60-minute feature in select countries with a limited number of users. However, it seems the global rollout of this feature may take some time.

This shift towards longer videos is part of TikTok’s strategy to keep users engaged on the app for extended periods. Users with access to the feature received an update that reads:

“Upload longer videos

Upload videos up to 60 minutes in length! Make sure your app is up-to-date, then try uploading from the app or the website on desktop.”

Despite facing scrutiny over security concerns in various countries, TikTok’s new feature will allow for the full-length posting of diverse content types such as cooking tutorials, beauty videos, educational material, and more. This development could also facilitate the release of entire episodes of shows directly on the platform. Last year, Peacock attempted to post an episode on TikTok but had to split it into five parts. Additionally, TikTok is testing a horizontal full-screen mode alongside the longer video feature.
