The World’s First AI-Generated Music Video Becomes a Reality!

Artificial intelligence is making its mark on the music industry, and the first AI-generated music video has been released, thanks to OpenAI’s Sora model. This marks the beginning of a new era where AI takes on a significant role in music video production. Here are the details…

World’s First AI Music Video Created with Sora

While OpenAI has not made Sora publicly available yet, the technology’s capacity to generate realistic and high-resolution videos has caused concern among various professionals, from traditional directors to drone operators—and with good reason. This groundbreaking AI music video accompanies the song “The Hardest Part” by Ernest Weatherly Greene Jr., also known as Washed Out. The four-minute video is composed of 55 textual inputs fed into Sora to create a fly-through sequence, which was then edited together using Adobe Premiere Pro. According to the creators, there were “minimal touch-ups,” but we’ll let you decide.

The video showcases AI-generated characters and environments that appear only briefly on screen. The unconventional angles, peculiar heads, shaky movements, and seemingly improvised special effects could be due to Sora’s processing errors or intentional design choices—either way, the outcome is quite intriguing.

The director, Paul Trillo, mentioned that he had been envisioning a music video like this for 10 years. This project could be seen as an evolution of The Shins’ 3D animated music video for “The Great Divide.” In “The Hardest Part,” a virtual camera moves through scenes, creating a dynamic visual experience that complements Washed Out’s track.

OpenAI’s Sora was introduced to the public in early 2024, and it stunned everyone with its ability to create breathtaking video clips from simple text descriptions. Previous AI-generated videos were shorter and often contained noticeable graphical glitches. However, the release of this AI-generated music video suggests a new direction for the future of the music industry.

Sora is a revolutionary tool, and its potential is showcased in a one-minute short film released in March. It indicates that AI could significantly impact the future of music video production. The question remains: Could this technology replace traditional music videos entirely? We’d like to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
