Steam, the world’s leading digital game store, is finally introducing a feature that players have been eagerly awaiting. Valve is reportedly developing a screen recording tool that will function directly within the Steam platform. This new feature will allow gamers to record gameplay without the need for third-party software.
In-Built Video Recording for Games on Steam
Currently, gamers rely on software such as NVIDIA ShadowPlay, AMD ReLive, or Windows Game Bar to capture video on Windows. However, Valve’s integration of a recording option into Steam will simplify this process. When enabled in games that support Steam Overlay, users can start recording by pressing a shortcut key, like F12. This will initiate video recording directly within the application.
The feature under development aims to go beyond simple recordings. It will offer background recording, continuously capturing footage. Importantly, it may include timeline markers within the recording interface for specific games. For instance, players could automatically capture key scenes while playing games like Counter-Strike 2.
Cloud Storage and Sharing Capabilities
Recorded videos, along with screenshots and other media, will be stored in 1 GB of cloud storage on Steam. Clips and screenshots can be shared on Steam community profiles, forums, and social networks. Although Valve has not officially announced the video recording feature for Steam, it is clear that the company is focusing on simplifying content sharing. An integrated recording tool would also be beneficial for platforms like YouTube and Twitch.
