Sony Announces New Leadership for PlayStation

Sony has announced the new leaders of PlayStation. Following Jim Ryan’s retirement decision, two co-CEOs have been selected to take his place. From now on, PlayStation will be led by Hideaki Nishino and Hermen Hulst.

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced a leadership change effective June 1, 2024. Hideaki Nishino has been appointed as the CEO of SIE’s Platform Business Group, while Hermen Hulst will serve as the CEO of SIE’s Studio Business Group.

Hiroki Totoki, who has been serving as the interim CEO of SIE since Jim Ryan’s departure in March, will also take on the roles of President, COO, and CFO of Sony Group Corporation, in addition to serving as the Chairman of the Board of SIE. Therefore, Nishino and Hulst will report to Totoki.

With this leadership change, Sony has divided the management of the PlayStation business across platforms and games. Both Nishino and Hulst have been with the company for many years and are familiar with the company culture.

This move by Sony marks the first time co-CEOs have been appointed to manage the PlayStation business. Additionally, the announcement was made just hours before Sony released its latest financial report. The company reported a 7% decline in annual profit, while stating that it had sold 59.3 million PS5 units worldwide.
