The incident involved a B738-type aircraft operated by Corendon Airlines on its flight from Cologne, Germany, to Gazipaşa in Antalya. According to the Ministry’s statement, the aircraft’s tire burst upon landing, causing damage to the nose gear. Fortunately, all 184 passengers and six crew members were safely evacuated without any injuries. A total of 190 people were on board.
The Ministry’s written statement provides more details: “On May 9, 2024, around 11:00 AM, a B738-type aircraft operated by Corendon Airlines, flying from Cologne to Gazipaşa, experienced a tire burst upon landing, causing damage to the nose gear. The evacuation of all 190 people on board, consisting of 184 passengers and six crew members, has been completed. Fortunately, there were no injuries among the passengers. Initial findings indicate that no damage occurred to the runway.”
Due to the incident, the runway has been marked with a NOTAM (Notice to Air Missions), and incoming flights have been diverted to Antalya Airport. The aircraft will be removed from the runway after the technical team completes its investigation.
