NVIDIA is not slowing down in its AI chip production. The company plans to maintain its leadership in the tech world by introducing a new chip every year.
NVIDIA’s AI chips have already generated a profit of $14 billion in a single quarter, and following this success, the company has decided to press forward at full speed. CEO Jensen Huang announced that the company will now design a new chip each year. Here are the details…
NVIDIA to Produce a New AI Chip Every Year
Previously, NVIDIA introduced a new architecture every two years: Ampere in 2020, Hopper in 2022, and Blackwell in 2024. Now, a new chip will be launched annually. Huang stated, “After Blackwell, there’s another chip. We are now on a rhythm of a new chip every year.” This new pace will further strengthen NVIDIA’s position as a leader in the tech world.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had reported that the next architecture would be “Rubin” and would arrive in 2025. Huang’s comments confirm this report. Therefore, we might see the R100 AI GPU very soon. NVIDIA is accelerating not only in AI chips but across all chip types. Huang excitedly announced, “New CPUs, new GPUs, new network cards, new switches… a whole bunch of chips are coming.” NVIDIA’s next-generation AI GPUs will be backward compatible, meaning they will work seamlessly with existing software. This means customers can easily transition from H100 to H200 and B100. Huang said, “Customers will be able to transition easily in their current data centers,” highlighting NVIDIA’s user-friendly approach.
NVIDIA’s CFO noted that the automotive sector would be the biggest enterprise trend within data centers this year. Tesla has purchased 35,000 H100 GPUs to train its “full self-driving” system. Consumer internet companies like Meta also hold a significant place in NVIDIA’s growth sectors. Meta plans to operate over 350,000 H100 GPUs by the end of the year.
With NVIDIA producing a new AI chip every year, it is clear that the company is shifting into high gear in the tech world. These innovations are a significant step forward not only for NVIDIA but for the entire technology industry. What do you think about this development?
