Mercury Bank Alerts Customers Following Security Breach at Partner Bank Evolve
Mercury Bank has announced a security breach involving one of its partner banks, Evolve Bank & Trust. The breach compromised security systems and leaked account numbers, deposit balances, business owner names, and emails associated with Mercury and other fintech accounts. The company assured that Mercury account credentials — including passwords — were not exposed as such information is not shared.
Although there is no expected increased risk of fraudulent use of the exposed Evolve account numbers, Mercury is implementing several preventive measures to safeguard customer funds. These include robust monitoring for suspicious ACH withdrawals. Customers are urged to dispute any fraudulent ACH withdrawal as soon as possible.
Additionally, customers can enhance the security of their accounts by enabling the ACH authorizations feature. This feature flags any ACH pulls from unauthorized vendors, allowing customers to decline them before processing. Customers interested in changing their account numbers for increased security can contact helpdesk@mercury.com or respond to this email.
Evolve is offering complimentary credit monitoring services on their website. Mercury is also conducting a thorough investigation into the leaked data to understand which customer information is at risk. The company apologized for any inconvenience and concern this breach may cause and invites customers with any questions or requiring assistance to contact their Customer Support team.
This cybersecurity attack highlights vulnerabilities in the fintech sector and prompts other financial institutions to remain vigilant against similar threats.
