Mercedes Suspends Development of Mercedes EA Large Platform! EQE and EQS Fall Short of Expectations

Mercedes, the German automotive giant, has made a surprising and unexpected announcement by halting the development of its new platform, MB.EA Large, intended for luxury electric vehicles. This platform was initially anticipated to debut as a major innovation in 2028, but it seems that plans have taken a different turn. Here are the logical reasons behind the suspension of this platform’s development.

Unexpected Electric Move from Mercedes! Suspension of MB.EA Large Platform Development There are several reasons behind Mercedes’ decision to halt the development of this platform tailored for electric vehicles. Firstly, the sales of EQE and EQS models have failed to meet expectations. Naturally, this situation must have put some pressure on Mercedes. These electric vehicles are among the company’s strongest contenders in the electric vehicle market, and the low sales figures have prompted them to reassess their future plans. Consequently, the company has decided to invest more in internal combustion engine and hybrid models rather than electric vehicles. Additionally, they have decided to review their investments in new platforms. Suspending the development of the MB.EA Large platform will result in savings of between 4 to 6 billion euros for Mercedes.

This is not a negligible sum. These savings will pave the way for the company to invest in other areas, especially the evolving EVA2 platform. The updated version of this platform will reach a voltage of 800 volts and will use more efficient, compact batteries. Thus, Mercedes is not stepping back in this field but rather opting to utilize its resources more efficiently.

While Mercedes develops the new generation of S-Class, GLE, and GLS models with plug-in motors, it will continue to offer electric vehicle models on the updated EVA2 platform. So, their commitment to electric vehicles is not entirely diminished; they are simply adopting a more pragmatic approach.

Mercedes’ strategic shift has caused a significant stir in the electric automotive industry. This decision likely carries considerable implications for other automakers as well. While Mercedes makes a U-turn in its electric vehicle strategy by suspending this platform, technology and automotive enthusiasts like us are eagerly following these developments.

We will see the impact of Mercedes’ new direction in the automotive world together. What are your thoughts? You can share your opinions in the comments section below.
