Mercedes-Benz Halts Production of EQC Model!

Mercedes-Benz has stopped the production of its EQC model abroad. Mercedes’ first electric SUV model has been discontinued due to competition. Mercedes-Benz, the pioneer in electric SUV, faced several challenges leading to this decision. Here are the detailsโ€ฆ

Mercedes-Benz EQC Model Will No Longer Be Produced Abroad The Mercedes-Benz EQC, initially introduced as the Concept EQ in 2016 and began production in 2019, marked Mercedesโ€™ first major step into the mainstream electric vehicle market and was the brandโ€™s first fully electric SUV model. However, due to being hurriedly developed, it was based on the fuel-powered GLC model instead of a completely electric vehicle platform, leading to some compromises in critical areas. The EQC offered a range of 255 miles (approximately 410 kilometers), had a somewhat cramped interior, and weighed around two and a half tons. As new competitors emerged, these features caused the EQC to lose its competitive edge. When it launched in 2019, the EQC’s main rivals were the Audi e-tron (now known as Q8 e-tron), the Jaguar I-Pace (soon to be discontinued), and the Tesla Model X.

However, Mercedes-Benz is now developing a new generation EQC using the entirely new MMA platform. This new model will offer larger batteries, smarter electric systems, and longer range. Nevertheless, as Mercedes plans to change its โ€œEQโ€ naming strategy, the official name of this new model is yet to be determined.
