Elon Musk continues to implement changes on X (formerly known as Twitter). The latest update involves the removal of publicly visible likes on user profiles. Musk announced that soon, the likes on user profile pages will no longer be publicly displayed. But why are likes being hidden?
Public Likes on X Will Be Hidden
Public likes are being hidden because they are said to encourage inappropriate behavior. It has been noted that many users refrain from liking provocative content due to fear of retaliation from trolls or concerns about their public image. Soon, users will be able to like posts without worrying about who might see them. The more posts users like, the better the “For You” algorithm will function.
Users will still be able to see who has liked their posts and view the total number of likes on all posts, replies, etc. Currently, X Premium subscribers can optionally hide the Likes tab on their profiles, but this feature will be removed entirely from the platform. The exact date for this change has not yet been announced.
