Google Photos Gets AI Support! Ask Photos Introduced

At Google I/O 2024, Google introduced a new feature that will take the already impressive search capabilities of Google Photos to the next level: Ask Photos. Google CEO Sundar Pichai unveiled a new feature at I/O 2024 that will take Google Photos’ already impressive search capabilities to the next level: Ask Photos. Ask Photos, which will be available this summer, will use artificial intelligence to connect the dots for more complex requests, making it easier to understand what you’re looking for.

What Does Ask Photos Do and How Do You Use It? During the presentation on stage, Pichai asked the app, “What’s my license plate?” Currently, searching for a license plate requires scrolling through photos of many different cars. However, Ask Photos understood which car was being referred to based on location, how many times the license plate appeared in photos over the years, and other data, and presented the actual license plate number along with a text response and a confirming image. Pichai also said, “Ask Photos can also help you search your memories more deeply,” and requested the app to “show Lucia’s progress in swimming.” Gemini then created an extensive photo collection summarizing years of a child’s swimming lessons.

Pichai mentioned that Ask Photos will arrive on Google Photos this summer, stating that “more capabilities are on the way.” To demonstrate how important the service has become for millions of people, Google’s CEO said that since its launch “almost 9 years ago,” Photos has received 6 billion photo and video uploads daily.

Ask Photos will enhance the user experience of Google Photos, making it easier to discover memories in a more effortless and meaningful way.”
