Google Drive is finally implementing a long-awaited feature. The cloud storage service will now add automatic subtitles to uploaded videos. This new feature is set to make Google Drive more user-friendly for those who store their videos in the cloud.
Google Drive Adds Subtitles Using Speech Recognition Technology! Google is rolling out a new update for its cloud storage service, Drive, enabling automatic subtitles for its users. Utilizing speech recognition technology, Google Drive will convert the audio from videos into text and automatically place the text at the appropriate times within the video. This can make your videos subtitled in a matter of seconds. But how does it work?
For example, if you upload a video to Drive, you can locate the video, right-click on it, and select โManage caption tracks.โ Then, by clicking on the โCreate automatic captionsโ option, you can turn your video into a subtitled version. This process works similarly for standard Google Drive accounts, but Workspace users have a slightly easier experience. For Workspace users, automatic subtitles are added to all uploaded videos unless subtitles are manually disabled.
While the processing of subtitles may take some time, once completed, your video will play in a YouTube-like player with subtitles. Currently, Google Drive offers this feature only in English, but many more language options will be available soon.
