Google’s latest Google Play System update, released in May 2024, has been causing unexpected slowdowns on some Android phones, particularly the Galaxy S23 and other models. Users have reported increased app launch times and overall performance degradation. Fortunately, a temporary fix has been identified.
Google Play System Update Slowing Down Android Phones: Temporary Fix Found
The May 2024 Play System update, rolled out in late April, introduced features like seamless transfer of Google Meet video calls between devices and password sharing with family members in Google Password Manager. However, it also brought about unexpected slowdowns on certain Android devices.
Samsung has acknowledged the issue on its South Korean community forum and offered a temporary solution. Company moderators noted that users might experience slowdowns after prolonged use of their phones following the update. The temporary fix for the Android slowdown issue is to simply restart your phone. While a restart is usually required during the update installation, Google recommends restarting again a few hours later in this scenario.
If you haven’t already installed the May 2024 Play System update on your Galaxy phone, you can avoid these slowdown issues by delaying the installation. With June underway, Google’s next Play System update is expected soon and will likely include a permanent fix for this problem.
This is the second issue Galaxy device owners have faced in the past week. Previously, a Google Meet update was reported to be causing the Samsung Messages app to crash. In late March, the One UI 6.1 update caused touchscreen problems on the Galaxy S23 series. Fortunately, Google continues to address these issues promptly.
