Former President Donald Trump Also Faces 3 Other Criminal Cases

Trump Facing Charges in 3 Other Criminal Cases

The hush money criminal trial against former President Donald Trump is just one of four criminal cases he currently faces. In addition to his presidential campaign, Trump is dealing with at least 88 charges across four criminal indictments in Georgia, New York, Washington, D.C., and Florida. Despite the charges, Trump has pleaded not guilty in all of these cases.

Case 1: Hush Money

In March 2023, Trump was indicted by the Manhattan District Attorney on state charges related to a hush-money payment made to an adult film star in 2016. Prosecutors allege that Trump was part of an illegal conspiracy to undermine the integrity of the 2016 election. They further claim that he was involved in an unlawful plan to suppress negative information, including the $130,000 payment.

Case 2: Classified Documents

In June 2023, a federal grand jury in Miami indicted Trump for taking classified national defense documents from the White House after he left office and resisting the government’s attempts to retrieve the materials. The National Archives reported in early 2022 that at least 15 boxes of White House records, some of which were classified, were recovered from the estate. Special Counsel Jack Smith brought the charges against Trump.

Case 3: Federal Election Interference

Special Counsel Jack Smith also separately charged Trump last August with four crimes related to his efforts to reverse the 2020 election results. The indictment alleges that Trump and a co-conspirator attempted to exploit the violence and chaos at the Capitol by calling lawmakers to convince them to delay the certification of the election. The case is currently on hold as the Supreme Court considers Trump’s claims of presidential immunity.

Case 4: Fulton County

In addition to the federal charges, state prosecutors in Georgia brought a similar case against Trump and others for election subversion. On August 14, 2023, an Atlanta-based grand jury indicted Trump and 18 others on state charges stemming from their alleged efforts to overturn the former president’s 2020 electoral defeat. A trial date for this case has not yet been set.

These four criminal cases present significant legal challenges for former President Donald Trump. While he maintains his innocence and pleads not guilty to all charges, the outcomes of these cases will have a significant impact on his future. As the legal proceedings unfold, the public and the courts will closely watch the developments in each of these cases.
