Elon Musk to Build a Supercomputer for AI!

Elon Musk has revealed plans to build a supercomputer to bolster the capabilities of xAI, his artificial intelligence company. This move aims to compete with leading AI models like ChatGPT and Gemini. The project is expected to significantly enhance the performance of xAI’s AI, Grok.

Elon Musk Plans to Build a 100,000-Chip xAI Supercomputer

At a recent investor event, Musk discussed xAI’s ambitious project to develop Grok, requiring approximately 100,000 AI chips. These chips will be integrated into what Musk describes as a “super factory of computation.” The supercomputer will utilize NVIDIA H100 chips, creating a structure at least four times larger than the current largest GPU configurations. This substantial increase in computational power is anticipated to elevate Grok’s capabilities to new heights.

Reports indicate that Musk aims for the supercomputer to be operational by fall 2025, personally overseeing the project’s timeline to ensure its timely completion. This initiative will accelerate xAI’s development efforts.

Grok, xAI’s first model, is currently being tested under the X Premium+ subscription. Although it hasn’t reached the level of GPT-4 or Gemini 1.5 yet, the addition of a 100,000-chip supercomputer could propel it forward significantly. Musk acknowledges that xAI currently lags behind industry leaders like Google and OpenAI in terms of overall capabilities.

To fund these ambitious AI projects, xAI is undergoing a comprehensive financing round. Musk has informed investors that upon completion, this round could value the company at over $24 billion.
