Elon Musk Fires Tesla’s Entire Supercharger Team: Restructuring and Uncertainties for Tesla’s Charging Business

Elon Musk Fires Tesla’s Entire Supercharger Team

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has made the decision to shut down the division responsible for running Tesla’s supercharger business. As part of this restructuring move, two senior executives, Rebecca Tinucci and Daniel Ho, have been dismissed, along with their entire teams. The memo stated that approximately 500 people were part of the supercharger group.

The Future of Tesla’s Charging Business

Tesla’s supercharger system is widely recognized as one of the largest charging networks in the world, giving the company a significant advantage over its competitors. However, with this recent decision, questions have arisen regarding the future of Tesla’s charging business. While the supercharger operations will continue, the restructuring raises uncertainties about the long-term strategy for this division.

Restructuring and Job Cuts at Tesla

These dismissals are part of Tesla’s broader restructuring efforts, which were announced by Elon Musk last month. The company plans to reduce its workforce by “more than 10 percent,” resulting in over 14,000 job cuts. Musk emphasized the need for Tesla to become a leaner, more innovative, and hungry organization.

The urgency for this shift is evident in Tesla’s financial performance. The company reported a nearly 10 percent decline in revenues during the first quarter of this year, marking its first year-on-year quarterly drop since the beginning of 2020. Additionally, Tesla’s share price has more than halved since its peak in November 2021.

Continued Expansion of Supercharger Sites

Despite the restructuring and dismissals, Elon Musk assured employees that ongoing supercharger sites under construction would be completed. He also mentioned the possibility of constructing “some” new locations, indicating that Tesla remains committed to expanding its charging infrastructure.

The recent disbandment of the entire public policy unit, following the departure of its leader Rohan Patel, further reflects the changes occurring within Tesla. Musk emphasized the importance of managers only retaining team members who meet the criteria of being excellent, necessary, and trustworthy.

Tesla has not provided any additional comments or statements regarding these recent developments.
