Deathbed Confession Solves 24-Year-Old Missing Persons Case

In a shocking turn of events, a deathbed confession has brought closure to a nearly quarter-century-old double missing persons case in West Virginia. The case involved the disappearance and fatal shooting of 10-year-old Natasha Alexander Carter and her mother, Susan Carter. The bodies of the mother and daughter were discovered on Monday in the backyard of their former home in Beckley, West Virginia.

The Disappearance

Natasha Alexander Carter and her mother, Susan Carter, went missing on August 8, 2000, from their home in Beckley. The pair was last seen together, and their disappearance had remained a mystery for over two decades.

The Confession

During a recent news conference, FBI Special Agent Tony Rausa revealed that the breakthrough in the case came from a confession made by Larry Webb, Susan Carter’s husband. Webb, who is reportedly ailing, admitted to the murder of both women. He confessed to shooting them and then burying their bodies in the backyard of their former home.

Raleigh County court records show that Webb was indicted on a first-degree murder charge in October 2023 in connection to the death of Natasha Alexander Carter. He was arrested on April 12 and was being held at the Mount Olive Correctional Complex.

The Details of the Crime

According to Agent Rausa, Webb revealed that he shot both women during an argument over missing money. He then wrapped their bodies in bed linens and kept them on the basement floor of their house for two days while he dug a shallow grave in the backyard.

Raleigh County Prosecutor Benjamin Hatfield stated that Webb confessed to shooting Susan Carter first and then shooting her daughter to avoid detection.

The Death of Larry Webb

Officials reported that Larry Webb suffered a medical episode while at the Mount Olive Correctional Complex and was pronounced dead at Montgomery General Hospital on Monday morning. His death occurred before the location of the victims’ bodies was discovered.

Initial Investigation and Ongoing Inquiries

At the time of their disappearance, Susan Carter and Alex’s father were involved in a custody dispute. Alex had moved in with her mother and her mother’s new husband. The initial investigation in 2000 suggested that Alex may have been abducted by her mother.

When questioned about the initial investigation, Agent Rausa acknowledged that mistakes were made and that they are currently being looked into. The case is still considered ongoing, and authorities are working to uncover the full details of the events surrounding the disappearance and murder of Natasha Alexander Carter and Susan Carter.

This recent development brings some closure to a case that has haunted the community for over two decades. The discovery of the victims’ bodies and the confession of Larry Webb provide answers to questions that have lingered for far too long. As the investigation continues, authorities hope to bring justice to the victims and their grieving loved ones.
