Can You Run a PC Emulator on an iPhone? Apple Has the Answer

Apple has recently clarified whether users can run a PC emulator on their iPhones and iPads. With the expected release of the iOS 18 open beta, Apple’s stance on emulators has become clearer.

Apple Does Not Allow Playing Retro Games on PC Emulators!
Known for its strict policies on modifying devices and using tools like emulators, Apple surprised everyone last week by allowing some retro game emulators on the App Store. Given the power of modern mobile devices, such as the iPhone 15, users are becoming increasingly interested in installing PC emulators on their devices. However, it seems Apple has put a stop to these aspirations.

Recently, two developers claimed to have developed a tool that emulates the DOS operating system, but it appears that Apple has effectively vetoed their efforts. While Apple has somewhat allowed the emulation of console games on iPhones, it strictly stated that PCs, which host a multitude of retro games, are not considered consoles and thus will not be permitted.

Following Apple’s statement, many app developers have expressed their frustration. Notably, a developer known as Litchie, voiced his discontent on his personal blog, criticizing Apple’s apparent lack of understanding about emulators.

Litchie wrote: “When I asked what modifications I needed to make for compatibility, they had no idea. They didn’t even understand what a retro game console was…”

It seems that for now, Apple has firmly closed the door on developers aiming to create PC emulators. What do you think about this situation? Is there a chance Apple might change its policy in the future? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below. Please write this as well.
