The Titan Tragedy Didn’t Stop Them! New Titanic Wreck Expedition on the Horizon
In the summer of 2026, Connor plans to embark on a bold expedition to the Titanic wreck site. Joining him will be Patrick Lahey, founder and CEO of Triton Submarines. Connor emphasizes that the mission is not just about reaching the Titanic; it’s about demonstrating that deep-sea explorations can be conducted safely and responsibly.
Connor stated, “The ocean can be incredibly powerful, but with the right approach, it can be amazing, enjoyable, and truly life-changing.” He will be accompanied by Patrick Lahey, an expert in submarines. The duo will dive using the $20 million Triton 4000/2 Abyssal Explorer submersible.
This submersible, designed specifically to withstand the extreme pressures at Titanic’s resting place approximately 3,800 meters below the surface, can handle the equivalent of an elephant’s weight per square centimeter. According to them, the Triton 4000/2 Abyssal Explorer adheres to much higher safety standards than the ill-fated Titan submersible, ensuring a secure mission for Connor and Lahey.
Deep-sea tourism is emerging as the new adventure for the wealthy, similar to space tourism. OceanGate, for instance, charged $250,000 per person for Titanic wreck expeditions. Triton Submarines also caters to affluent clients passionate about exploring the deep sea, although the fees for this specific expedition have yet to be disclosed.
Despite the wealth involved, such explorations are fraught with significant risks. The Titanic wreck site presents navigation challenges and dangers to the integrity of the submersible.
