TikTok has issued a warning to all users regarding the spread of malicious software through direct messages (DMs). But what steps can you take to protect your TikTok account? According to Forbes, it has come to light that malicious individuals are spreading harmful software through DMs to hijack the accounts of celebrities and brands on TikTok. CNN, Sony, and Paris Hilton’s official TikTok accounts have been among those affected by these attacks. So, what can you do?

They’re Hacking TikTok Accounts through DMs These attacks are quite insidious. Typically, for malicious software to infect your device, you would need to download a program or click on a malicious link. However, in this case, it’s different. Apparently, simply opening a DM containing malicious software is enough. That means your device could be at risk as soon as you open the DM.

Last week, CNN’s TikTok account was hijacked by a hacker. Following this incident, CNN had to close the account. A CNN spokesperson mentioned that the company is working on additional cybersecurity measures in collaboration with TikTok. Currently, CNN’s TikTok account is not accessible on the platform.
