According to a travel company called Expedia, Mid-to-late August is the best time for Americans to fly this summer. During a typically quieter period, Expedia suggests that travelers could save up to $265 on roundtrip tickets compared to the last week of June, when average fares reach their peak.

They advise booking summer flights between 21 to 60 days in advance. Last year, travelers who booked during this timeframe saved approximately 15% on both domestic and international travel.

Booking too early or too late can be detrimental. Expedia found that travelers paid 15% more than the average fare if they booked more than 90 days in advance for international trips or less than a week in advance for domestic trips.

The week preceding the Fourth of July, especially since it falls on a Thursday this year, is anticipated to be the busiest time for air travel. Additionally, Expedia’s research revealed that flights scheduled after 3 p.m. were 50% more likely to be canceled, suggesting that it could be advantageous to book flights earlier in the day.

Tips For Passangers Who Fly Long Hours

  1. Bring Entertainment: Load up your devices with movies, TV shows, podcasts, or audiobooks to keep yourself entertained throughout the flight.
  2. Read: Bring along a book or download e-books onto your device to catch up on reading.
  3. Listen to Music: Create playlists or explore new music to listen to during the flight.
  4. Work or Study: Use the uninterrupted time to catch up on work tasks, respond to emails, or study for exams.
  5. Sleep: Rest is crucial on long flights, so try to get some shut-eye by bringing along a neck pillow, blanket, and eye mask.
  6. Stretch and Move Around: Combat stiffness and promote circulation by stretching your legs, walking up and down the aisle, or doing in-seat exercises.
  7. Hydrate and Snack: Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and pack some healthy snacks to keep your energy levels up.
  8. Mediate or Practice Mindfulness: Use the quiet time to meditate, practice mindfulness, or simply relax and enjoy the moment.
