Multiple Arrests Made for Planning Passover Sacrifices in Jerusalem

In a recent development, the police in Jerusalem have arrested a total of 21 individuals suspected of planning to carry out a Passover sacrifice in the city. The arrests were made following an investigation by the authorities, and the Hanenu organization’s legal center was notified of eight of these arrests.

Details of the Arrests

The police reported that 21 worshippers were taken into custody on suspicion of planning to sacrifice a Passover offering in the Jerusalem area. The legal center of the Hanenu organization was informed about eight of these arrests on Monday morning. Among the arrested individuals were two brothers, aged 17 and 15, who were apprehended in the Givat Mordechai area by the Jerusalem Central Unit. They were found with goats and were subsequently taken to the central unit offices for questioning.

In addition to the two brothers, two more suspects, also aged 17, were arrested in the Sefra Square area of the city. They were also found in possession of goats. The remaining six suspects were arrested in various locations throughout Jerusalem, some of them also with goats. All eight suspects associated with the Hanenu organization will be represented by attorneys Nati Rom and Moshe Polsky from the organization.

Disruption of Public Order

Furthermore, the police announced that detectives from the central unit in the Jerusalem district detained an additional 13 suspects, aged 13-21, on suspicion of intending to disrupt public order. During their activities, the officers identified several individuals carrying goats or attempting to hide them in various ways, such as inside shopping bags and strollers. The suspects were taken for further questioning by the central unit, while the animals were transferred for veterinary care.

The police emphasized their commitment to maintaining order and upholding the law in the holy places of Jerusalem. They stated, “The Israel Police operates in Jerusalem with all security forces, openly and covertly, against anyone attempting to disrupt order and act contrary to the law and prevailing customs in the holy places of Jerusalem.” They also urged the public not to provide a platform for or support extremist fringe elements that seek to disrupt order and law.

The police reiterated that the current practices on the Temple Mount and other holy sites in Jerusalem would continue to be preserved, and that extremists and offenders of any kind would not be allowed to violate them.

This recent series of arrests highlights the efforts of the authorities to maintain peace and security in Jerusalem, particularly during religious events such as Passover. The police’s vigilance and commitment to upholding the law serve as a reminder of the importance of respecting the customs and traditions associated with holy sites.
