Apple has conducted a comprehensive study on one of the significant ailments of our modern world, tinnitus, and has shared its results with the World Health Organization. Since starting to track health data, Apple has also been working to create value. By collaborating with various medical institutions in possible countries to analyze health data, Apple has published one of the largest research studies in the medical world.
Apple and Tinnitus
With nearly 2 billion users, Apple has become an important library for the analysis of health data. Of course, these studies also contribute to the prominence of Apple products. The company has recently published a study on tinnitus. With over 160,000 participants, the study is considered one of the largest in the medical world. Apple aims to fully understand the cause of this condition and to find basic solutions.
Of the participants in the study, 77.6% reported experiencing tinnitus or a similar condition. This discomfort tends to occur more frequently in the late fifties. This rate is three times higher compared to those aged 18. Men experience this condition 2.7% more than women. The study found that exposure to loud noises and experiencing sound trauma can lead to tinnitus. 20% of the participants experiencing ringing in the ears reported these issues.
In this research, Apple states that many applications or modes available in its products can partially reduce tinnitus. For example, the Apple Watch can alert users in environments with unhealthy levels of noise. Users can also see the level of sound through the Health app.
Additionally, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max headphones can perform noise cancellation before users are exposed to unhealthy sound levels, or the Transparency mode can completely block sound. Apple has shared this research with the World Health Organization.
