Apple is reportedly close to reaching an agreement with OpenAI for the upcoming artificial intelligence features set to come with iOS 18 on the iPhone. According to Bloomberg’s report, the tech giant has been in talks with both Google and OpenAI regarding AI models, ultimately deciding to collaborate with OpenAI.
As per Bloomberg, Apple has decided to work with OpenAI for the AI capabilities it plans to integrate into Siri with iOS 18. It seems that ChatGPT will play a role in enhancing Siri’s abilities. We might expect to see the outcome of their collaboration showcased by both companies at the WWDC event next month.
Mark Gurman reports that, following renewed discussions with OpenAI, Apple has decided to use the company’s AI technology in the iPhone 16 series (limited to iOS 18 on other iPhones), with an official announcement expected soon.
This news comes shortly after reports of Apple negotiating with Google to license Gemini for various iPhone services. While Apple reportedly did not reach an agreement with Google, the relationship has not been completely severed, according to Gurman.
iOS 18 is set to be announced at the WWDC event beginning on June 10th. With Apple nearing an agreement with OpenAI, we may see familiar ChatGPT capabilities integrated into popular iOS features like iMessage, FaceTime, and of course, Siri.
