AMD Zen 6 Processor Series May Arrive Sooner Than Expected

The AMD Zen 6 processor series, initially slated for a 2026 release, might hit the market earlier than anticipated, recent reports suggest. Following the announcement of the Zen 5 desktop and mobile processors last month at Computex, new details have emerged about the upcoming generation dubbed ‘Medusa.’

AMD Zen 6 to Debut Before the End of 2025

Leaks indicate that the Medusa, part of the Zen 6 series, might launch by late 2025, contrary to previous speculation targeting 2026. According to sources including the YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead, AMD plans to complete the development of the Zen 6 architecture by the second quarter of 2025 and commence production within the same year.

The Medusa chips, targeting both laptop and desktop AM5 platforms, are expected to utilize TSMC’s enhanced 3nm technology, N3E. AMD’s naming conventions denote ‘Ridge’ for desktop, ‘Point’ for mobile, and ‘Halo’ for high-end flagship mobile processors.

The leak also hints that Strix Halo will feature 16 Zen 6 cores and 32 threads, promising significant performance improvements over its Zen 5 predecessors. Additionally, AMD is set to offer enhanced power efficiency and higher clock speeds with these new chips.
