Apple is gearing up to introduce exciting new features with iOS 18, but a recent report suggests that many of its standout AI capabilities may be limited to the latest iPhone models. As we eagerly await the release of iOS 18, Mark Gurman has shared some disappointing news: most of the on-device AI functionalities will likely be available only on the cutting-edge iPhone 15 Pro models.
AI Features Limited to Latest iPhones
According to the report, to fully utilize iOS 18’s impressive new features, you’ll need an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max with the A17 Pro chip. The standard iPhone 15 models, which come with the older A16 chip, will not support these advanced AI capabilities in Siri and other built-in apps.

Power of the A17 Pro Chip
The A17 Pro chip, with its significantly faster CPU and GPU cores, includes a new 16-core Neural Engine capable of 35 trillion operations per second. The integrated memory has also been upgraded from 6GB to 8GB. While the minimum requirement of an A17 processor for these features is partly due to technical specifications, it also aligns with Apple’s product marketing strategy.
Release Expectations
iOS 18 is expected to launch in September alongside the new iPhone 16 series. The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max will undoubtedly support all iOS 18 features, including those specifically powered by AI.

WWDC24 Highlights
According to Apple, WWDC24 is set to be the biggest Apple developer event of the year, with iOS 18 touted as the most significant update yet. As we look forward to this major update, it will be interesting to see how these new AI features will enhance the user experience for those with the latest hardware.
