Advertising Era Begins on Windows 11! Here’s How It Will Look

Windows 11 will display advertising applications in the Start menu. With the new update, advertisements are officially being rolled out. Microsoft has started releasing monthly security and feature updates for Windows 11 as part of the May package. However, a change included in this month’s update has sparked criticism. The company has begun adding advertisements to the Windows 11 Start menu.

Advertising Applications to Appear in Windows 11 Start Menu An important change stands out in Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2 versions with the KB5037771 package. Microsoft now displays applications from the Microsoft Store in the Start menu. These application ads appear in a section labeled “Recommended.” Microsoft believes this support is beneficial for users, stating that it will make it easier for developers to discover new applications. However, many users are uncomfortable with advertisements appearing in the operating system.

Microsoft began testing this concept in Windows Insider builds last month. Users who were bothered by the ads displayed in the Start menu provided significant negative feedback. However, with the KB5037771 package, this feature is now expanded to more users.

Nevertheless, it’s important to note the option to disable “Recommended” applications in the Start menu. You can turn off the “Show recommendations” option by going to Settings, then Personalization, and Start.

The addition of advertising applications to the Start menu has also fueled speculation about Windows adopting a subscription-based model. There are rumors that Microsoft may start charging users a monthly license fee with Windows 12.
