Apple has announced the Battery Health feature for the new M2 iPad Air and M4 iPad Pro models with its latest iPadOS 17.5 update. During the “Let Loose” event last week, where Apple unveiled its sixth-generation iPad models and accessories, the spotlight was on the M2 iPad Air and M4 iPad Pro models. Now, with the iPadOS 17.5 update, Apple has introduced a feature that has long been available for iPhones. Here’s a closer look at the Battery Health feature for iPad Air and iPad Pro:
Maximum Charge Option Added for iPads in the Battery Health Menu The tech giant has finally brought a long-awaited feature, already familiar to iPhone users, to iPads. The Battery Health menu is now available and can only be used on the latest tablets. With the introduction of the Battery Health menu for iPad models, users will no longer need to rely on third-party apps. Additionally, similar to the iPhone 15 series, maximum battery capacity has been added to iPads. This means that M2 iPad Air and M4 Pro users can not only view Battery Health but also utilize an 80% charge option. With this feature, the iPad will automatically stop charging when it reaches 80% capacity, extending battery life.
However, despite the usefulness of the new feature, it has only been released for the new M2 Air and M4 Pro models. None of these features have been released for previous models. Even if older iPad users download the latest iPadOS 17.5 update, they will still need to use third-party apps for the Battery Health menu.
