Qualcomm Quietly Introduces the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 Processor

Qualcomm recently introduced its new Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 processor without much fanfare. This new processor, built using 6nm technology, adds to Qualcomm’s lineup, and as per their naming conventions, the “s” typically indicates a slightly lower tier model compared to its higher-spec counterpart, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3.

Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 Overview

The Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 is available in two variants: one supporting 4G (SM-6370) and the other 5G (SM-6375 AC). It is built on a 64-bit architecture and utilizes a 6nm manufacturing process. The processor can reach peak frequencies of up to 2.3 GHz. For the GPU, it employs the Adreno 619 and supports LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage systems. Additionally, the processor features Qualcomm Sensing Hub certification, indicating strong AI performance capabilities.

Camera and Video Capabilities

On the camera front, the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 supports up to 108 MP cameras and can record video at 1080p 60 fps. This is a step down from its predecessor, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, which supports 4K 30FPS video recording and has a more advanced Adreno 710 GPU, LPDDR5 RAM, and UFS 3.1 storage. However, the new 6s Gen 3 can handle 720p video recording at 120 fps.

Display and Connectivity

The processor supports displays with up to 120 Hz refresh rates, ensuring a smooth gaming experience for most FPS games. Integrated into the processor is the X51 5G chip, which can achieve download speeds of up to 2.5 Gbps. It also supports Wi-Fi 5 (802.11 a/ac) and comes with Bluetooth 5.2.

Expected Device Integration

According to some leaks, the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 might first appear in the Motorola G85 model, which is not available in all markets. However, no official statements from smartphone manufacturers confirm which devices will feature this new processor.

Conclusion

The Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 promises to deliver improved performance and efficiency for mid-range devices. While it may not match the higher-end specifications of its predecessor, it still offers significant capabilities for its target segment. What are your thoughts on Qualcomm’s new processor?
