Promises Made! Trump Vows to Halt Electric Vehicle Sales

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has sparked major controversy with his latest announcement. As he re-enters the presidential race, Trump has promised to halt electric vehicle (EV) sales if re-elected. How does he plan to achieve this? Here are the details…

Trump’s Pledge to Stop Electric Vehicle Sales

Donald Trump’s declaration is seen as a move to reverse the Biden administration’s climate policies and to bolster the oil and gas industries. Trump has solicited significant campaign donations from leaders in these industries, promising in return to roll back exhaust emission targets and significantly reduce EV tax credits if he wins the election.

Trump’s statements come at a time when the electric vehicle market is experiencing rapid growth. In 2016, only 159,139 electric vehicles were sold in the U.S., but this number is expected to exceed 1.5 million in 2024. William Clay Ford Jr., chairman of Ford Motor Company, emphasized that the company’s planning processes must continue irrespective of the election results.

Investments in U.S. manufacturing, spurred by President Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act, are ongoing. For instance, Hyundai is investing $13 billion in electric vehicle production in Georgia. Halting such investments may be challenging for Trump, as they also benefit American workers significantly.

There are concerns that Trump’s plans to stop EV sales could harm the livelihoods of blue-collar American workers. Moreover, even in Republican strongholds like Texas and Florida, the popularity of electric vehicles is on the rise.

How Trump’s stance on electric vehicles will impact the election results remains to be seen in November. Do you think Trump will keep his promise if elected? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
