Nvidia RTX 50 Series to Debut with RTX 5080

The tech world is abuzz with anticipation for Nvidia’s upcoming Blackwell RTX 50 series GPUs. Recent reports suggest that the first card to hit the market may be the RTX 5080 instead of the expected RTX 5090. Nvidia is expected to have a significant advantage in the consumer GPU market this year, with AMD not offering much in the way of high-end competition, making the RTX 50 series all the more intriguing.

RTX 5080 May Launch First Both Nvidia and AMD are set to release their next-generation graphics cards later this year, but there’s been speculation about which card will be the first to launch. Reliable source @kopite7kimi indicates that Nvidia’s first card in the RTX 50 series will be the RTX 5080. This approach is somewhat unusual since flagship products typically lead the launch of new GPU generations.

Previous rumors indicated that the RTX 5090 and 5080 would be available by the end of this year, with other mainstream cards following in early 2025. The reason for this shift might be that the RTX 5080 could outperform Nvidia’s current top GPU, the RTX 4090. Additionally, reports suggest that coolers for the RTX 50 series are already in the testing phase.

Nvidia’s Future Plans Nvidia’s plans for AI GPUs are also coming into focus. A new series, codenamed “Rubin,” is expected to start mass production in the fourth quarter of 2025, with retail availability in early 2026. The first chip in this series, R100, will utilize TSMC’s 3nm N3 process and feature HBM4 memory. It will also continue to use CoWoS-L packaging technology and incorporate a 4x reticle design.

These developments are exciting news for Nvidia fans. The RTX 5080’s performance and Nvidia’s plans for the Blackwell series have generated considerable interest. As the launch date approaches, enthusiasts are eager to learn more about Nvidia’s strategy and the features of its new graphics cards.
