Microsoft Tightens Restrictions for Non-Activated Windows Users with Edge

Microsoft continues to enforce restrictions on non-activated Windows systems, now extending those limitations to its Edge browser. The company has revealed that the latest Edge Canary version restricts access to certain browser settings for users with non-activated Windows installations.

Edge Limitations for Non-Activated Windows Systems With Windows 11, Microsoft introduced more severe restrictions for non-activated systems, primarily targeting Windows Settings. Users are unable to access various customization and personalization features without activating their Windows license.

It appears that a similar restriction will now apply to Edge. A notification found in Edge Canary indicates that Microsoft is limiting customization options for users with non-activated Windows. The message states, “We noticed that Windows is not activated; some customizations are restricted.”

These changes suggest that Microsoft is reinforcing the importance of activating Windows licenses by gradually limiting functionality for those who do not comply. While these restrictions were previously confined to the operating system’s settings and personalization options, extending them to Edge may prompt more users to activate their Windows installations.
