Microsoft Fixes VPN Connection Issue in Windows, Addresses Critical Zero-Day Vulnerability

Microsoft has announced the resolution of the VPN connection issue in Windows 10 and 11 operating systems with the KB5036893 update. The software giant also patched a critical zero-day vulnerability in Windows.

Microsoft has resolved the VPN connection issue that appeared in Windows 11 and 10 with the announcement of the fix. The problem stemmed from the KB5036893 update. The VPN connection failure affected certain versions of Windows 11 (23H2, 22H2, and 21H2) and Windows 10 (22H2 and 21H2), as well as versions of Windows Server 2008 and above.

The issue arose due to a bug in the April 2024 security update, causing users to have difficulty connecting to VPN services. As a temporary solution, the software giant recommended rolling back the system to a previous version. Then, a permanent fix was provided at the earliest opportunity.

Other vulnerabilities have been addressed as well. Microsoft announced that it fixed the issue with the May 14, 2024 (KB5037771) and subsequent Windows updates. Users are advised to install the latest security update, which will not only resolve the VPN connection issue but also provide various other improvements.

The May update also addresses an error causing the domain controller to restart and NTLM authentication failures. Additionally, it closes a zero-day vulnerability exploited by cybercriminals to infect systems with QakBot and other viruses.
