Intel’s AI Innovation Showcase at COMPUTEX 2024

Pat Gelsinger Highlights AI’s Impact

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger emphasized AI’s transformative impact on technology, stating, “AI is driving one of the most significant innovation periods the industry has ever seen. The magic of silicon is once again pushing the boundaries of human potential and delivering exponential advancements that will support the global economy for years.”

Gelsinger noted that Intel is uniquely positioned to innovate across the entire AI market spectrum, from semiconductor manufacturing to computers, networks, edge, and data center systems. He highlighted the company’s latest offerings, including the new Xeon, Gaudi, and Core Ultra platforms, which combine hardware and software ecosystem strengths to provide flexible, secure, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions.

Industry Leaders Join Gelsinger on Stage

Gelsinger was joined by industry leaders such as Acer Chairman and CEO Jason Chen, ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih, Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella, and Inventec President Jack Tsai. They underscored Intel’s role in revolutionizing AI innovation and delivering next-generation technologies ahead of schedule.

New Products Unveiled

Xeon 6 Series and Gaudi AI Accelerators

After launching the 5th Gen Intel Xeon processors, Intel introduced the first member of the Xeon 6 family. The previewed Gaudi AI accelerators promise cost-effective, high-performance generative AI (GenAI) training and inference systems. The company also highlighted the deployment of Intel Core Ultra processors in over 8 million devices, heralding the AI computing era.

The Intel Xeon 6 processors, featuring Efficient-core (E-core) and Performance-core (P-core) SKUs, are designed for a wide range of workloads, from AI to high-performance computing and scalable cloud applications. The first member, Intel Xeon 6 E-core (codenamed Sierra Forest), is available now, with the Xeon 6 P-core (codenamed Granite Rapids) expected next quarter.

Efficiency and Performance

Intel Xeon 6 E-core processors offer high core density and exceptional performance per watt, making them ideal for high-density, scalable workloads. The Gaudi 3 AI accelerators provide significant performance enhancements for training and inference tasks, helping enterprises unlock the value of their proprietary data.

Affordable AI Systems

Intel announced that standard AI kits with Gaudi 2 accelerators cost a third of comparable competitive platforms. Kits with Gaudi 3 accelerators are also available at two-thirds the cost of competitive platforms, offering significant price-performance advantages.

Lunar Lake and AI Computing

Intel expanded its AI footprint beyond data centers to edge and personal computing. With over 90,000 edge deployments and 200 million CPUs in the ecosystem, Intel is leading the AI computing category. AI PCs are expected to make up 80% of the computer market by 2028. Intel’s Core Ultra platform supports over 300 features and 500 AI models, providing the best hardware and software platform for AI PCs.

New Architecture: Lunar Lake

The Lunar Lake architecture, slated for release in Q3 2024, focuses on graphics and AI processing power while offering up to 40% lower SoC power and over three times AI computational power compared to the previous generation. It includes new Performance-core and Efficient-core designs, the fourth-gen Intel neural processing unit (NPU), and a new GPU design codenamed Battlemage with Xe2 GPU cores and Xe Matrix Extension (XMX) arrays.

Leading the AI Computing Revolution

As competitors prepare to enter the AI PC market, Intel is already delivering AI PC processors at scale, having shipped more AI PC processors in Q1 2024 than all competitors combined. Intel is not only bringing AI everywhere but also shaping its future, inviting customers and partners to seize unprecedented opportunities and lead the next wave of innovation.
