Google Messages Gets Gemini Update

The integration of Google’s AI assistant, Gemini, into the Google Messages app has begun rolling out widely. Announced at the I/O 2024 event, Gemini aims to enhance the messaging experience by providing users with an intelligent chat assistant.

Gemini Era Officially Begins in Google Messages

Gemini debuts in the Google Messages app as a new chat assistant. When users start a new conversation, they will first interact with Gemini. After agreeing to some terms, users are directed to the standard messaging interface, which includes emoji and gallery options, though it currently lacks a voice note feature.

Gemini allows users to draft messages, brainstorm ideas, plan events, and engage in fun conversations. Optimized for more concise replies, Gemini facilitates one-on-one chats that cannot be merged with other conversations.

Gemini integrates seamlessly with other Google services like Workspace (Gmail, etc.), YouTube, and Google Maps. Users can long-press on responses to provide feedback, star them, or forward them. Conversations with Gemini require an internet connection (RCS), but do not support end-to-end encryption.

This feature, available to beta users since March, is now accessible to a broader audience, excluding the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, Switzerland, and India. What are your thoughts on this update? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments below.
