Google Gemini Gathers Intelligence to Counter Threats
Google’s new threat intelligence service, Google Threat Intelligence, combines insights from Google’s Mandiant team, the VirusTotal community, and billions of signals from the company’s devices and email platforms. Gemini serves as a search tool for threat intelligence, allowing users to learn how to protect themselves against security threats.
By integrating the Gemini 1.5 Pro model with other services, Google has significantly enhanced its threat intelligence processes, improving defense capabilities and reducing the time it takes to identify security threats. Gemini can condense large data sets in seconds and analyze suspicious files more quickly.
Gemini 1.5 Pro is designed to make reverse engineering malware easier, a critical method used by cybersecurity professionals to dissect advanced software. For instance, Google noted that Gemini 1.5 Pro was able to analyze a WannaCry malware file and identify its “kill switch” in just 34 seconds.
Google Gemini Threat Intelligence can produce customized threat summaries from a decade’s worth of threat intelligence reports. Dave Gruber, the principal analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group, stated that this service “offers security teams the ability to operationalize threat intelligence to better protect their organizations.”
Google announced this new service at the RSA Conference in San Francisco, where the company revealed it protects 4 billion devices and 1.5 billion emails daily while blocking 100 million phishing attempts each day. Google also introduced new AI-powered features, such as an “Investigation Assistant” to help respond to security threats and a “Playbook Assistant” to assist security teams in creating response playbooks that simplify specialized tasks.
